"Eep!"
Mushroom jumped as she felt something slither past her leg, sending a shiver running up her spine. She felt herself begin to turn away, when a little bell in her head rung loud and clear.
Oh yeah, that slithering creature was hers.
Mushroom calmed herself down, just in time to be joined by a shorter, frog-like creature, his eyes grim and dreary. He gave his trainer a wayward glance, a deep, rumbling croak filling his bloating cheeks. Meanwhile, the seviper at her feet hissed menacingly to the other poison pokemon and slithered up Mushroom's leg, his powerful muscles pushing him up to her shoulders. The snake shot a glare to the Craogunk, his deep red tongue flicking angrily toward his teammate.
Route One was what one would expect beginners to face. Flat grasslands blanketed the whole of the route, and few plants other than the tall grass grew. A certain Orange-haired female had just begun on this route, a seviper on her shoulder and a craogunk to her right. Neither of them seemed to be getting along, though.
+Say that again, Toad!+ Stalemate seethed through clentched teeth. +We'll see how funny it is!+
=Okay, You're a loud, half-baked idiot, and you need to turn down you're irritating voice before we all bleed out our ears.= Fluke shot back coolly, barely batting a eye. A smirk almost strecthed at his maw.
+Well....! I.... You don't even have ears, smart-a...+
"Come on guys, we're a team. Don't you want to act like a team?" Mushroom interjected in one last attempt to restore sanity to her team. Hopeless tears were practically washing down her face. "We can put differences behind us right?"
+Tell that to croaker...+ Stalemate mumbled half-heartedly.
Mushroom sighed, trying to settle them down. Fluke let out a last croak of amusement, before turning away, a shadow hanging over his dulled eyes.
This was going to be a long route.

A Zizgagoon burst out of a nearby bush in front of them. It looked angry for a moment, but its expression quickly turned to fear.
<Sn... Snnnnn.... SNAKE!>

Mushroom stopped in her tracks, staring blankly at the zigzag pokemon before her. Fluke had halted next to her, but seemed in no way effected by sudden stop. He did, however, send the little zigzagoon a surprisingly icey glare, a deep, frighteningly dark aura rolling off him in great waves.
Stalemate seemed to be the only one with any life in him. Flicking his forked tongue irritably, the snake opened his wide jaws and flashed his huge scarlet fangs in a mock yawn. His sharp tail curled around Mushroom's neck, allowing the sun to glint dangerously off the edges.
+Yeah snake,+ He hissed, +What of it!+
Mushroom, snapping out of her surprised state, let the seviper off her shoulders and bent down to comfort the wild pokemon. She held her hand out for the zigzagoon to see, and looked at it, eye-to-eye.
"It's okay, don't mind Stalemate, he's always like that." She cooed gently.

The Zigzagoon trembled as it saw the two pokemon glare/talk to it. It must be really scared of them. The little pokemon burst into tears as the Seviper talked to it. It looked up, scared, at Mushroom.

"H-Hey, It's okay..." Mushroom tried to help the creature block out the 'scary' pokemon behind her. "They won't hurt you, it's alright..."
The female brought her hand slowly down over the zigzagoon's head, attempting to pat the creature without scaring it to death. A familiar set of fangs suddenly intruded on this try, though. Stalemate somehow slithered in between the trainer and pokemon, his black body like an omen of misfortune.
+Don't make promises you can't keep, Mush.+ The words were meant for Mushroom, yet the snake never took his glinting eyes off of the racoon pokeomn. He seemed suspicious of something.
"Stalemate!" Mushroom frantically pushed the large serpent out of the way, hoping dearly that the pokemon wasn't already scared out of his skin. "Really, don't mind him, he doesn't know what he's talking about."
Stalemate scoffed sorely, but surprisingly kept his trap shut, inching more toward his newest enemy: Fluke. They said nothing, but the electricity in the air was much worse than any insults or mud-flinging. A tenseness gripped the area around them, though Mushroom and the zigzagoon were safely out of range.

The Zigzagoon calmed down more when the pokemon were blocked out of its view. It let Mushroom pet it. It whimpered a little bit. It froze as the snake interfered between them. It trembled, and then fled into a nearby bush.

As the creature fled, a cold stone dropped in Mushroom's stomach. A wave of icey guilt washed over her, as did the surprise of the pokemon's sudden leave. She didn't mean to scare it! 'Poor little thing. It must still be running, after all that...' With a a sudden turn toward her less-than-cooperative pokemon, she shook slightly. She could definitely see where the zigzagoon was coming from. She'd be scared to death too if she were a small, probably tastey to a snake, and was staring one right in the eyes. Not a good situation to be in. Still...
"Stalemate, you scared the poor thing off." Mushroom commented sorrowfully, "You didn't have to push it so far."
+Yeah, and?+ The snake tapped his tail tip to the level ground, not expecting more, +Not like it was gonna join us or battle us. What point was there in hanging around it?+
=Hm,= The humming sound in Fluke's throat almost seemed to agree with the seviper.
"Well you didn't have to scare it," Mushroom murmured.
The trainer got to her feet and looked to her seviper and craogunk, both seemed completely opposed to following any commands or suggestions. But still, they were her team, right? Geez, poison pokemon sure did have attitudes.

A Pidgey appeared in the branches of a tree. It stared at them, showing no emotion.

Mushroom began to brush the dirt and dust off her pants when a sudden figure caught her eye. Looking up to the canopy of the tree's branches, she abruptly noticed the pidgey's appearance. In a startled leap, the trainer fell backwards unto her butt, eyes closed, hands in the air, and two poison pokemon sending her very odd looks.
Stalemate looked up to meet the set of emotionless eyes, and a cold shiver ran down his spine. In an instant, the seviper's instincts were kicking in, and suspicion overwhelmed his senses. His whole body was on high-alert. Something about that bird got on his nerves. Opening his mouth again, the snake flashed his fangs at the pidgey to see if it would run away like the zigzagoon.
Even Fluke seemed to be uptight about the new appearance of the pokemon. It was just a pidgey, yet it's cold, emotionless optics seemed to drill down to the craogunk's spine.
"Hey there!" Mushroom called, a bit embarrassed by her spill, "What 'cha doing up there?"

The Pidgey glared at the Seviper.
<Roar.>
It looked at Mushroom. It's gaze softened a bit and it chirped a reply. <Nothin'. You?> It's cold glare returned once it looked at the Craogunk and Seviper.

+What!+ Stalemate's rage flared, and he swore he felt a vein pop in his head.
This bird was mocking him! He ate pokemon twice it's size! A heated glare shot from the seviper's eyes, locking solely on the annoying little thingy. If he could've spat his venom at the bird he would've. And it would've stung, to be sure. But he couldn't, so he settled for a good, long glare.
While the craogunk would've taken the opportunity to bash his seviper 'chum' along with the pidgey, he couldn't stifle a feeling of unease that crept over his body without rest. The bird wasn't on his good side, that was for sure.
Mushroom, still seated promptly on the ground, smiled one of her infamous goofy grins, almost totally unaware of the others' suspicions. She sat with her legs crossed indian style, her arms stretched out behind her to prop herself up, and her neck tilted up to look the pidgey in the eyes.
"I'm trying to get through this route. I'm kinda new at training, though."

<You heard me, Snakey.> it said, smirking. The bird glared right back at the Seviper, then at the Craogunk.
The Pidgey turned Mushroom. <Want to battle?>

Mushroom opened her mouth to answer, but was cut off by her seviper, who rushed in front of her, eyes aflame and tail lashing about ruthlessly. Seemed like the prospect of fighting flared the reptile's energy even more. An angry grin stretched unnaturally across Stalemate's maw.
+Oh, you bet your feathered tail we do!+ He growled.
Mushroom blinked a few times before getting to her feet once again and brushed her pants off, again. She was going to agree anyway, so, she simply nodded to what her pokemon had blatantly put and pulled out her pokedex for a quick lesson on what exactly she was fighting. A pidgey, flying type, kicked up sand to blind its opponent, knew normal and flying moves, a basic wild pokemon.
"You wanna start?" Mushroom offered, "I really don't know how you start these things."
Stalemate huffed irritantly. He had really wanted to go first so he could knock out the little buzzard in one blow. But of course it wasn't going to happen. His tail still lashed about, and his eyes locked onto the bird. No way was he going to lose.
From the sidelines, Fluke watched half-interested. He hadn't seen a real pokemon battle before. It should prove to be a nice experience. Especially if the pidgey won. A soft croak of amusement rose in his throat. Yeah, that would be wonderful.

The Pidgey fluttered down from his place in the tree, to the ground. It stared up at the Seviper, before flapping its wings till it hovering. Without answering mushroom, it attacked the Seviper using Peck.

Mushroom was taken aback by the suddenness of the pidgey's attack and flustered, scrolling through her pokedex for Stalemate's attacks.
While his trainer so professionally handled the situation, the seviper was hit directly by the peck attack, wincing as the bird's sharp, rough beak drove into his scales. He twisted back, hissing as he went, to get some distance between him and his opponent. The worst part was that he could feel Fluke's impending stare drilling holes in his back. He just knew the toad was enjoying seeing him squirm.
+Come on, Mush!+ The snake snapped, reeling, +Anything!+
"O-Okay...!" Mushroom snapped the dex shut and lifted her finger to point to the pidgey, "Stalemate, try a poison sting on it!"
+Alright!+ The seviper was definitely pleased with her choice.
Opening his great mouth, the snake aimed straight for his bird opponent and unleashed a shower of poisonous glowing darts, all shooting for the pidgey. His tongued curled in satisfaction for his attack, imagining how each prick would feel like digging into the pokemon's body.
