When Jasmine began to poke the Mareep as it merrily bounced about, the Pokemon grew less and less energetic. It slowed down until it stopped right before the Sneasel. It flicked its head up at Nav's Pokemon, with a sad and almost pathetic expression on its face.
What? Why was it so sad? It didn't seem to appreciate being poked as it jumped around the boy and his Pokemon. The poor thing almost looked as if it was going to burst out into tears. Surely just being poked didn't hurt, right?

Nav felt sorry for the pokemon. It's pathetic appearance completely ruined his resistance, and before Jasmine knew what happened, he had fallen to his knees and begun to hug it. The sneasle blinked, trying to make sense of what had happened.
This would never do. She needed to toughen him up for sure. He looked like he was going to take over-Mew forbid!-that swinub. If he was going to be her trainer, he couldn't be some weak, big-hearted, love-everything-with-a-sad-face boy!
Of course, Nav didn't notice the glower on the sneasle's face, nor could he read Jasmine's mind. So he was completely oblivious to the growing fustration of the pokemon. "Oh, poor Mareep. See? It's all better!"

The Mareep felt the boy embrace the Pokemon in a big hug and now it didn't feel so down. Aww, this trainer cared! The fluffy sheep-like Pokemon smiled, then turned its head over towards Jasmine. It could see the Sneasel glower, so the Pokemon returned the look by sticking its tongue out at her, then snickering.
The Mareep liked Nav, for his kindness. If he was ruthless and tough like Jasmine had wished he would be, the wild Pokemon probably wouldn't feel so comfortable around him. Hey, having a soft side to your personality never hurt, now did it?
